Clio Wang
Clio grew up in China, where she felt like English was simply another evaluation in the school system. She learned grammar and vocabulary for testing, but never focused much on conversation. It wasn’t until she moved to the USA that she started to see language as a tool — not just for evaluations, but to connect with one's local community. Grocery stores, restaurants, and doctor’s visits are one thing, but the ability to have genuine conversations with the people around you means a lot. Clio is a lifelong learner, and the more fluent she has become in English, the more she has observed the differences between it and her first language of Chinese. These differences have helped her understand English even more. She wants to teach other adult learners in her community to help them make the same connections that she has.
